Welcome
Learning through memorable experiences, hands-on activities, and involving all our senses in our bodies leads to a richer educational curriculum at the university and more interesting coursework for students. The Scarlet Pimpernel Project aims to gather the Rutgers University resources to provide such student experiences in classes as well as part of individual experiences and research projects. We are making these resources more easily discoverable and available in our searchable database (Resource Inventory) tagged with keywords for all types of course topics broadly related to the biological and environmental sciences.
The database will include information about and links to amazing museums and scientific collections, farms, gardens, ponds, trails, digital web portals to biodiversity and climate data, maps, and university research stations in all parts of New Jersey. Many of these resources are not broadly known and used yet by instructors and students, but provide a goldmine for active, hands-on learning and independent student research.
The Scarlet Pimpernel project is run by Dr. Lena Struwe, Director of Chrysler Herbarium, in collaboration with a large group of faculty and staff who work for innovative and engaged undergraduate education.
